RFID Basics | How to Read & Write RFID Tags

Project Summary

RFID technology has one big teaching problem: you can’t film radio waves. This tutorial for atlasRFIDstore explains RFID fundamentals and demonstrates how to read and write UHF RFID tags using a handheld reader, pairing an on-camera expert’s walkthrough/narrated demonstration with custom graphics that show on-screen what the hardware is doing invisibly.

The script came from one of Atlas RFID’s experts; everything else was my job. I annotated the script with B-roll ideas, planned and filmed the demonstration, coached our on-camera expert, and built the graphics in Illustrator and After Effects to visualize the read-and-write process for viewers brand-new to the technology. I edited the final cut and published it to the company’s YouTube channel.

Published in 2018, the video is still doing its job: eight years later, it has passed 240k views.
